Big Nick’s Burger Joint

Serving up West Siders since 1962, Big Nick’s is one of the few places that has survived the doom that has come to many of the UWS local stores and restaurants over the years. This local joint serves up pizza, burgers and just about anything else that it’s owner could dream up over the years. Just look at the walls and you’ll find more food items both inside and outside the menu – many of which have probably been decorating those walls for decades, along side the photographs of A, B and C celebs from decades past. It’s just hard to imagine that it’s tiny kitchen can back up the paperback size menu.

So here’s my review of the American Cheeseburger: Like Nick, this is burger is BIG. It’s cooked well, fits the seeded bun, and is made of 100% steer angus beef. I liked that the burger was both juicy and manageable. But, I can’t say that the flavor blew me away. The meat is packed tight and the burger is designed to fill you up without complaint. However, I thought the burger lacked the flavor that a P.J Clarke’s or J.G Melon burger has. I left full and satisfied, but not overly impressed. Big Nick’s Burger Joint is an UWS staple and is worth checking out, but don’t expect to be blown away by the burger.
